The COSMO smartwatch for kids was a relatively new product when it was first released in 2021. With an outdated, manufacturer default operating system, the overall UI and UX needed a big overhaul. The overhaul needed to be built around it’s Users, children ranging from 5-13 years old.
The general theme was to simplify everything, from the language, to the navigation. This meant removing steps to simplify the experience, simplify the language so that any child (fluent in english or not) can understand what to do next. We also increased the overall hit targets so that accuracy wouldn’t be a problem, fresh colors and icons to boot.
Working with an overseas dev team, a product manager, and the executive team at COSMO, we were able to push a massive update to our core product. Over time, we were able to listen to the parents of our Users, and add more functionality, like emergency calling and group texting.
The fun didn’t stop here. Using a white-labeled Parental Control app for both iOS and Android, we were able to make incremental UX changes and rebrand the app to compliment the look and feel of our smartwatch.
