GoodLife Fitness
GoodLife Fitness is the number 1 fitness club in Canada and synonyms with the words “gym membership”. They are the go to place for everyone from teenagers to seniors, beginners to athletes.
The challenge
For health related information, there is an influx of sources on the internet for people to go to. Unfortunately, GoodLife was not one of those sources. Recognizing this gap, the undertaking was to create a source of information for everything health and fitness related, including recipes, workout plans, and living a healthy lifestyle. Open to members and non-members, GoodLife wanted this source to be open to everyone, and to eventually be the go-to place for everything that’s related to healthy living in Canada.
The solution
With content being written by GoodLife’s very own fitness instructors and content writers, templates needed to be created in order to make their lives easier. Numerous forms of content were identified, including long and short form content, videos, workouts, recipes, and slideshows to name a few. Templates were created as well as various callouts per piece such pull quotes and an easy way to adjust quantities for recipes.
Responsiveness
As with all great platforms, responsiveness was a must. With Goodlife’s internal team taking care of development, all designs were provided with 3 breakpoints to cover mobile, tablet, and desktop. And of course, designs were done with a mobile-first mindset.
The epiphany moment
Trending at the time was having large hero images span the entire browser, with titles being overlaid a darkened background. After seeing many of the screens one after another, the realization that beautiful imagery was becoming dull with the darkness. The mood and feeling of such a high energy brand was becoming lowered.
The solution was simple enough, moving the relevant information above the image on a clean white background. This allowed the image below to stand alone and breath, and the vibrancy of the images to glow.
